Architecture: Star architects emerge, but even they find limits -- latimes.com
Architecture: Star architects emerge, but even they find limits -- latimes.com
Architecture, arguably for the first time in its history, found itself at the very center of American cultural and political life in the decade that is wrapping up. That centrality helped make stars out of architecture's top talents. With the aid of powerful software, adventuresome clients and, not least, a flood of new wealth and easy financing, it also produced a rush of inventive buildings, in styles stretching from fluid to wildly sculptural to neomodern.

Groceries: Marketing Strategy - Ideas - Dwell
Groceries:
The notion of making daily trips to four different specialty shops to keep the larder stocked is hardly imaginable in the age of 100,000-square-foot superstores, but today’s grocery shoppers are starting to take a cue from the romantic era when the distance from the wheat field and the baker’s oven could be covered by bicycle.

St. Albans School / Skidmore, Owings & Merrill | ArchDaily
In 2006, with its centennial approaching, St. Albans School, a private boys’ school founded in 1909, decided to embark upon its first new construction project in nearly 30 years. The institution hired Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) to complete a 25,000-square-foot expansion and 30,00-square-foot of renovations to provide a student center, new classrooms, faculty offices, library and auditorium. The school, which had developed slowly over the years and did not follow a rational plan, also hoped that the architects could create a cohesive linkage between four of its existing buildings.

Merit = siteplan faced to evergreen mountain=Demerit=Facing not south but northwest=Lack of southern sunlight.
From agony about the direction to which major living space see, the plan of this house started.
